Chancel Choir & Handbells
The Chancel Choir provides music for our 11:00 am service for approximately 45 Sundays each year. The choir rehearses each Wednesday evening from 7:15 – 8:45 pm, August through early June. Our repertoire is based upon solid choral principles with selections ranging from traditional choral expressions to spiritual settings to selected modern praise. The Chancel Choir leads not only in the 11:00 am service but for the annual Hanging of the Greens service presented on the evening of the first Sunday in Advent. Membership in the Chancel Choir is open to anyone from high school age up to “it’s none of your business how old I am.” Membership requirements are merely a loving servant leadership attitude and willingness to regularly attend rehearsals and services. The ability to read music is certainly helpful but not a requirement. For information regarding the Chancel Choir please contact our Director of Music, John McFadden, or one of the Chancel Choir members or the church office.
Main Street is blessed to own a 5 octave set of Malmark Handbells. Rather than having regular weekly ensemble rehearsals, Chancel Bells has elected to hold 3 – 4 intensive rehearsals over as many weeks, followed by playing for a service. This format helps maintain a higher level of attendance — a vitally important factor for a handbell ensemble. It has allowed the group to play for special services or events. The ability to read music is a requirement for membership in Chancel Bells but no previous handbell experience is necessary. For additional information, contact John McFadden or the church office.
