This message was received Wednesday, July 10, 2002 (and a follow-up on July 11, 2002) from Jorge Obando -- Web Managing Producer of the General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) of The United Methodist Church:
myGBGM is the web-based, personalized mission information service of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church. It is the result of weeks of development by the GBGM web team in collaboration with UMComm and the Upper Room.
As a member of myGBGM you will receive:
myE-cards are a great way to keep in touch with family and friends without having to go secular sites, which do not include messages with religious tone. Most of the e-cards offered on myGBGM carry an excerpt from a scripture along with your personal message. Sending e-cards is a very simple four-step process. myGBMG will walk you step-by-step in sending your e-cards. Furthermore, sending e-cards furthers awareness about the mission work of the United Methodist Church. More exciting e-cards and categories of e-cards will be added on weekly basis, so look forward to having e-cards that fit all your needs, and if you cannot find what you need, just let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
The Daily Devotional is a contribution by the Upper Room Ministries of the General Board of Discipleship of the Untied Methodist Church, and is powered by UMComm on myGBGM. The Upper Room daily devotional guide is the spiritual companion of more than 2.5 million people around the world. Each of the reader-written meditations encourages you to open your heart to God. Scripture readings and prayers included nourish your faith. The devotional content is updated daily, you will automatically see the day's devotional when you log into myGBGM.
Aside from the services initially offered at the time of launching myGBGM, GBGM web team is developing new modules offering other services, such as the moderated chat rooms open forums for discussion and enrichment and web casts
We will continue to work on adding more modules to myGBGM, especially now that you are telling us more about your interests. New modules - such as the moderated chat rooms, open forums for discussion and enrichment, and web casts - are currently being developed. In the Spring of 2003, we plan to be able to bring up-to-the-minute, mission-related information directly to your cellular phone and/or PDA, based on your myGBGM profile.
myGBGM will become your UM on-line community: a place where you learn about mission, where you keep informed about the impact that the UMC has around the world, and where you soon will start to find and get in touch with people who share your interests.
A new section for children and youth is also in the works, myGBGMjunior. Kids and young adults will be able to find mission-related information from the context of other kids and young adults from around the world. They will also find support material for schoolwork, Bible studies, streaming video and audio clips, games, suggested links, and the tools to host and maintain their own mission-related web sites where they will be able to share with other kids around the world their mission work in your community, your country and even internationally through stories, photo galleries and even video clips. It will be a couple of months before myGBGMjunior is made live, but you can look forward to it being launched toward the end of the year.
Now, remember that in order to benefit from this great new service, first you need to register and set up your profile for myGBGM. The on-line registration process is simple and will take no more than five minutes to complete. You can register by going to the following address:
Once you set up your profile by filling out the online form, you can change your preferences (topics and geographical regions of interest) directly from your myGBGM page at any time. That way, you will have total control over the content that gets displayed on myGBGM every time you log in.
We hope you enjoy this new service from the General Board of Global Ministries. As always, we are eager to receive your comments and feedback about this and any other service of the GBGM web site.
Sincerely,,
The GBGM web team
